Create USB Drive Bootable

FlashBoot is a tool to make USB disks bootable. Its primary focus is USB Flash disks, but other types of USB devices are supported as well. Making disk bootable involves formatting and copying operating system files to it. Different operating systems are supported: Windows 7/Vista, Windows XP, SysLinux-based disks, GRUB4DOS disks, Linux kernel etc. You may create blank bootable USB flash with minimal set of system files and then manually tune it for your needs, or convert a full-featured bootable CD-ROM or floppy disk to bootable USB Flash keeping all functionality. FlashBoot can either format physical disk or write an image file. So you may create customized USB disk manually or with another tool and use FlashBoot to create image out of it and redistribute it in local network or online.

Why do you might want to use bootable USB flash disks?

Unlike the most bootable medias, bootable USB Flash keys are very handy: compared to floppies, they have much bigger size, speed and reliability, compared to CD/DVD discs, they are random write access devices, so you can backup your data to the same media where you booted from, without need to reformat (reburn) the entire media. Again, the cost per gigabyte for them continues to cut down, unlike CD/DVD discs.

Bootable USB flash disks are especially useful with netbooks like ASUS Eee PC which does not have builtin CD/DVD drive or an opportunity to install one. On the other hand, buying external CD/DVD drive for netbook is not a truly wise choice because it will be shifted out of use just after Windows is installed, thanks to widespread use of DVD image files and modern hard disk capacities.

Bootable USB flash disks are useful as boot devices on the "big" desktop PCs too, unlike CD/DVD discs they do not have sensible surface you could scratch, thus more reliable (especially when holding your backup data). If your sysadmin at work restricts PC to not to have CD/DVD drives, you still can boot from USB flash disk. Or if your home PC has CD/DVD drive failed, you can do it too.

There are some mobility considerations as well. If your laptop has a bootable CD/DVD drive, you can't work with it for a long time: boot device is accessed quite often, and battery power is obviously not enough to supply laser for a long time.

With bootable USB Flash disk, you don't have to obey a CD/DVD size limit of 700 or 4700 MB. You can buy a big or a small USB disk depending on your needs. Just after boot, on every PC, you may save your files to the same boot device, or restore them back. There's no need to reformat (reburn) the boot disk, you just copy files and folders, and there's no need for extra hardware for such operations. Of course you may do some things you can't do under your OS: copy/modify system files (they are busy when OS is running), reinstall OS, repartition your main hard disk etc.

Getting Scanner To Work in Ubuntu
I have noticed that some users are not able to get their scanner to work while the printer is working fine . So i found the solution online and here I am going to share that solution with you guys . All you need to do is just to issue the following commands in the order shown below :
Update : With the new Drivers from Canon There is no need to follow the steps below, just install the new drivers and restart your computer. But if your scanner is not identified even after installing the new drivers then follow the steps below.
1 . Download the scanner drivers for for Ubuntu here .
2. Extract the package by double clicking it and you will find two .deb files (scangearmp-common_1.40-1_i386.deb and scangearmp-mp250series_1.40-1_i386.deb) in it . Just install both the files .
3. Now open your terminal

the following command

sudo apt-get install libusb-dev build-essential
4. Now we need to get sane-backened so issue the following commands .
sudo apt-get install git-core
git clone git://git.debian.org/sane/sane-backends.git
completion of this step depends upon the speed of your internet and it may take some time if you are on slow connection so pls be patient
5. The above command will save the sane backend in your home directory with the name sane-backends . So now you need to go to that directory . If you are already in your home directory then issue the following command .
cd sane-backends
6. No we can run the configuration of the package with the following command:
./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var
7. Once the configuration is complete we need to compile the package so issue the following command .
make
This process may take a while to complete .
8. The last step is to install the package so issue the following command :
sudo make install
9.  The scanner is now installed, however the permissions still need to be set. To set the permissions we will create a new file that will allow usage of the scanner. In the terminal, open Gedit:
sudo gedit

Once the gedit is open copy paste the following text in it
SUBSYSTEM==”usb”, ENV{DEVTYPE}==”usb_device”, MODE:=”0666″

SUBSYSTEM==”usb_device”,MODE:=”0666″
and save this file in your /etc/udev/rules.d directory with the name 40-scanner-permissions.rules
Your PIXMA MP250 scanner is now installed. You many now start scanning using Xsane scanning-utility .
Note : If you have any problem with the following procedure and you still cant get your printer/scanner to work then ask me for help in the comments I am always ready to help, and you can do me favor by linking this blog to your site and recommending it to your friends .
Note: Canon Now provides drivers for 64Bit Version of Ubuntu also.

Make Printer Wireless sharing

Sharing a Printer Connected to a Computer on Your Wireless Network

open the Control Panels and select”Printers and Faxes”
Then select “Properties”.
Go to the “Sharing” tab. You may or may not see this screen. If your sharing tab looks like the representation above, select the option that you understand the risks and you want to share you printer (bottom link on picture).

select “Just enable printer sharing”, and press “OK”.

Now you should see the general sharing interface for Windows XP. Select “Share this printer” and give it a meaningful name and press OK. Ignore any MS-DOS naming error message you receive because few computers use MS-DOS anymore
In the “Printers and Faxes” control panel, you should see your printer with a hand icon over the icon. This means that it is currently being shared over the network (within your workgroup)

On Another Computer

open the control panels again and click on “Printers and Faxes”. Then select “Add a printer” from the menu on the left.
select “A network printer…” to add the shared printer on the other computer, then click “Next”.
select “Browse for a printer” so we can choose the correct printer to install, then click “Next”.
Now you’ll need to find the printer by first selecting the workgroup (in my example, it’s called “WORKGROUP”) and then select the name of the computer, and finally select the printer and click “Next”. You may have a strange named computer, but most networks are small and it should be fairly easy to find out which computer is which. If you don’t see your computer in the list, you may need to check and make sure that all computers within the network are on the same domain. Changing the domain of a computer is outside the scope of this article but many resources are available online.
Now, the computer will attempt to install the drivers from the other machine. If you’re running a different version of Windows, sometimes these drivers are incompatible (ie, Vista). Click on “Yes” to proceed.
Next, make the selection Yes or No if you’d like this new printer to be you default printer in the programs you use in your computer, then click “Next”.
select “Finish”.

Make Printer Wireless

Mac OS X (10.5) Leopard / (10.6) Snow Leopard

go to the “Sharing” control panel.
Check the box
message indicating that printer sharing has been turned on.

open the “Print and Fax” control panel.
On the printer icon, select “Share this printer”.

On Another Computer

On on the other computer, add the printer by going back into the “Print and Fax” control panel and click on the “+” button.
Then, you should see the newly shared printer in the list of available printers to add to your computer. Click on the printer you wish to add and select, “Add”. You can also add shared printers from a Windows computer here, but that procedure is out of the scope of this article.

Set up Facebook, Twitter and other social networks on the HTC Desire HD

Using the set up manager, you can set up all your social networks before you start using the Desire HD.
The HTC Desire HD allows you to set up Facebook, Flickr and Twitter accounts for use with HTC's Friend Stream and HTC Peep social networking services.
You can either set these up using the setup manager when you first turn your Desire HD on, or do it later

Setting up social networks with the set up manager
The set up manager will appear when you turn your Desire HD on the first time, or after you've carried out a factory reset of the device.
When the social networking setup screen appears, simply select the social networks you use and enter your username and passwords.
Each time you successfully set one up, you'll return to the set up screen to add more accounts.
When you've finished, tap on next.

Setting up additional social networks
If you want to add more social networking accounts, or didn't use the set up manager to add accounts, you can do this later through the Accounts & sync sub menu in Settings.
To set up a new account, select Add account.
Here, you can choose which you want to set up for use on your Desire HD.
To use the Facebook widget on your Desire HD, opt for the Facebook for HTC Sense option.
Enter your username and password for the account. If your log in email address is set up on your Desire HD, it should appear as you start typing to save you typing it in again.
Beware though, we found that we had to manually change the address from the default @googlemail.com to @gmail.com before it successfully signed us in.
When setting up your Flickr account, you will be required to confirm you're downloading the HTC Flickr downloader from a trusted source.
Option for the second option as the first is sometimes regarded as untrustworthy and access to Flickr may not be granted.
When you've set up your accounts, you're ready to start using Friend Stream.

Set up a Wi-Fi connection on the HTC Desire HD

When you opt in for either Mobile Network or Wi-Fi, or just Wi-Fi, the Desire HD will by default try to connect to a Wi-Fi network near you.

  3. Head to Mail, Contacts, Calendars and then add account.
  4. Select MobileMe from the type of account.
  5. Enter your account information (name, username, password and account description). Tap save.
  6. You can then select what you'd like to sync using your MobileMe account.
  7. You'll need to activate the 'Find my phone' feature in the Mail, Contacts, Calendars settings if you want to be able to find your phone when it's lost or stolen. From here, head to Fetch New Data and ensure it's turned on.
  8. If you already have contacts and calendars saved on your iPhone, you can merge these with the MobileMe account -- you'll be asked if you'd like to do this when you set the account up.

Set up a Wi-Fi network connection on the BlackBerry Torch

Using Wi-Fi can be an excellent alternative to 3G data, especially if you don't have high-speed coverage where you live. It also comes in particularly handy if you don't have an unlimited data plan on your device and can save you a substantial amount of money.
If you haven't used a BlackBerry with Wi-Fi before, we'll show you how to set up a new Wi-Fi connection in this step-by-step guide.

Preparation
Before doing anything from your Torch, you'll want to make your you have a Wi-Fi signal to connect to, and that you know the security key, if the network requires one.

Adding the network connection to your phone
There are two ways to get to the proper settings area for setting up your Wi-Fi network. One way is to view your full applications screen and select "Manage Connections". In the route that we'll demonstrate below, you can get to the same page directly from the homescreen by clicking on the signal indicator.
1. Open "Manage Connections"
2. Highlight and select "Set Up Wi-Fi Network"
Note: At this point, it is not necessary to turn on your Wi-Fi just yet. We will do that before searching for networks if it's still off at that time.
This will bring you to a "Welcome to Wi-Fi Setup" page. Once you comfortable setting up Wi-Fi networks on your device, you can check the box next to "Don't show this introduction again," and you will not have to navigate through this page any longer.
3. Highlight and click "Next" at the bottom of the screen.
4. The next page will say "Select an option". Highlight and select "Scan For Networks" at the top of the list.
At this point, if you still have your Wi-Fi turned off, a pop-up will display, asking if you want to "Turn on Wi-Fi to perform a scan?"
5. Highlight and select "Turn Wi-Fi on".
The list of available wireless networks will populate.
6. Find the wireless network you are looking for (in this case, "Hamrick"). Highlight and select your network of choice.
Depending on the router you are connecting to, a screen may pop up saying it supports Wi-Fi Protected Setup. For extra security, your BlackBerry smartphone can create a PIN for utilizing in the connection. For the sake of this guide, we will not do this.
7. Highlight and select "Cancel".
This brings us to the Wi-Fi Security page. If your router has a security key, you will be asked to enter it here.
Note: If you do not have a security key set up on your network, it is strongly recommended if own and have access to the router settings.
8. Tap in the "Pre-Shared Key" text box, and enter the security key, if applicable.
9. When you are done, highlight and select "Connect".
As long as there is no problem connecting with your router, you will then come to a completion page that says, "Wi-Fi Success".
10. You can now highlight and select "Finish".
If you started this process the way that we demonstrated, upon clicking "Finish", you will immediately return to the homescreen. If you accessed "Manage Connections" from the applications list, just a few clicks of the escape key will get you back to the homescreen.
If everything has been done correctly, you should now see the Wi-Fi logo/indicator at the top of your screen. You should also see the name of your network somewhere on the screen as well (vacation may vary, depending on theme).

Disconnecting from the Wi-Fi network
Any time you travel outside the range of your router, service will automatically disconnect. However, the Wi-Fi radio itself will not shut itself off. To do so, you must go back to the "Manage Connections" page and un-check the box next to Wi-Fi.
Note: If you are not using the Wi-Fi on your device, it is advised that you turn the radio off to conserve battery life.

How to sync your iPhone 4 with iTunes

When you first receive your new iPhone 4, Apple requires that you use iTunes to activate the device. Syncing your iPhone's content with iTunes is completely optional, however.
There are many benefits to syncing your iPhone 4 data with iTunes, not the least of which is ensuring that all of your Contacts, Calendars, Email settings, Web page Bookmarks, Notes, Ringtones, Music, Photos and Videos, Podcasts, Books and Audio Books are backed up. This way, if something goes wrong and you lose data on your iPhone, a quick restore is all you need to recover your files.

To set-up syncing between your iPhone 4 and iTunes, follow these simple steps:
  1. Connect the iPhone 4 to your PC and launch iTunes
  2. Select iPhone Option in the iTunes sidebar
  3. Now, select which things you’d like to have synced – so, music, email and contacts for example
  4. Once you’ve done this, click Apply – it’s in the bottom right corner of iTunes
  5. Wait for Syncing to complete
That's it!
We recommend that you sync your iPhone 4 with iTunes at least once a week. In the unfortunate event that data on your iPhone is lost, this will ensure that you have a recent backup file to restore with.
